STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

Recently I bought an computer from the ebay user "199computerstore", It finally arrived here today after 2 weeks. I connected everything together then turned on the computer. When the computer was turned on, It shows hard drive: 0 and won't boot or anything. The package that was sent to me included a valid Win XP with it's CD. The computer then went into hard configuration and after the system got done checking all the settings, this is the error I received "stop c0000221 unknown hard error systemroot\system32\ntdll.dl". Now I really don't know what to do. I really need help fixing this system.

Oh and here's link to the item.

Stop: c0000221 unknown Hard Error /system/system32\ntdll.dll

What im trying to do is formating my computer i restart my pc then i boot up xp cd, then it loads, and gets to say Starting Up Windows, cd stops, then goes black then blue and ntdll.dll error. I tryed reisntlaling windows, overwiritng file, please help!

(i have readed all the posts about this error to but that didn't help in my case.)

"stop c0000221 unknown hard error systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll" while trying to install windows xp

Hello, I recently ran a repair on my system using the windows xp professional re-install disk. Everything appeared to run fine but then my computer started to do weird things. One of the things that it is doing is saying "setup is restarting" and taking me back to the place where the installation is finalized and never finishing.

I have tried booting with the windows xp disk to try and remove the windows installation but I get this error, Stop: c0000221 unknown Hard Error /system/system32 ntdll.dll. Basically what it does is say "starting windows" for a few minutes then BSOD'ing me.

I have read about the possiblility of using an ASR floppy but unfortunately I never heard of it or backed up onto a floppy before learning about it. Is there a way I can use someone else's computer to create a floppy and hope it works?

Basically, my computer wont start up, it hangs before it even gets to windows and restarts itself.

I tried repairing/using the Windows installation cd, and it boots the cd, but half way through at

"Setup is starting windows", it hangs for a min or 2, then blue screen and this error message

"STOP: C0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SYSTEMROOT\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll"

Any ideas suggestions on how to get round this / fix the problem ?

p.s (I'm aware of the other major thread like this, but I couldn't find an answer for my specific problem in it).

Thanks,
Harry

I replaced a hard drive (20GB) in a Dell Optiplex GX260 with one from a Dell Optiplex GX270 (80GB) and it won't boot windows. Both computers run XP SP3 and both have an Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz Processor. I tried everything I knew how to do and still nothing. I loaded a recovery cd and it attempted to start Windows but instead I got a blue screen with this:
C0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

hey I have a mediocre system on Windows XP home edition SP1 and yesterday I ran into a problem. I wasn't doing anything special, I was downloading some stuff off IRC and a p2p, and I tried to start up internet explorer and the whole system crashed. When I tried to boot up the computer again, the computer went through its regular bios, but then during its load up of xp a blue screen appeared with the following error message:

Stop: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

I continue to recieve the same message on every attempt I have made to boot up my computer, including safe mode. Any Ideas?

Forgot to say that computer restarts untill I have to took out computer's battery if I do shut down it able to do it and restart again :(
What I have done to try fix it:

2) I try to format windows xp professional with sp2 and sp3 and get ERROR:
STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error/systemRoot/System32/ntdll.dll
3) Use spybot us here I read fix the problems - but teh problem still is :(

Change (buy) new hard drive 160 GB and try to format - the same - not work

What I need to do else to fix the problem ?

I'm trying to install XP Home on a freshly formatted Hard drive.

I've been searching google for several hours trying to solve this problem. I've tried "fix" I could find but,I keep getting this error:

STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

So far I've tried the following (one at a time):

1. removed original 2 optical drives, installed one I know works.
2. Removed each of the two RAM strips, one at a time. I don't have any new to try, but I doubt both would be bad...
3. replaced data cables
4. disabled UDMA
5. tried 2 different install CDs
6. HDD diagnostics report all is well
7. obvioulsy I can't "fix" the install or "copy .dll files" since there is no xp installed.

What else is there to try!!??

OK, I'm trying to do the Troubleshooting Lab from Ch. 4 of the MCSA/MCSE 70-270 book. I already had the Recovery Console installed on my hard drive, I know the Admin password, and I have my XP Pro setup disk at hand. The first part of the exercise is to break your system... and boy, did I ever. I renamed ntldr to "oldntldr" as per instructions, and now I can't start from the Recovery Console on either the hard drive or the CD. Starting from the hard drive just gives a "NTLDR is missing" error message; no option to start from Recovery Console. Starting from the CD doesn't give me an option to repair the drive... as a matter of fact, there's no "Welcome to Setup" screen. Windows Setup just starts loading file after file until finally I get "STOP: c0000221 unknown hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll"

According to MS support, the solution is to reinstall Windows. Unfortunately, it seems I don't even have the option to do that since I get a BSOD when running Setup from the CD.

Can anyone explain to me why the system wouldn't be able to run Setup from the CD if there's a bad file on the hard drive? And what the hell am I going to do now?

When i going to install xp, i have 3 time following Error in the blue screen.-

STOP: c0000221 unknown Hard Error
\systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll

So now plz give me any solution

stop:c0000221 unknown hard error
\systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll
can you help me out of this error

I have a 9 year old Dell PC. The hard drive died.

I took another hard drive and I wiped it clean.

I purchased a "Windows XP reinstallation disk for Dell" CD off of ebay.

I installed that onto my blank hard drive. It did NOT ask me for a Windows license key.

After I connected to the internet, my computer connected to Microsoft to verify the version of Windows I installed is legitimate(aka, not pirated). My version did pass.

So what is the deal? Why do I not have to put a Windows license key in?

Can I use this exact same CD to reinstall Windows XP on my other Dell computers? I have a few Dell systems at home.

The Dell reinstallation disk that I bought looks like this.

My wife has had this laptop for about 18 mo now with only a few minor wifi problems. Today, I replaced her 512MB memory with 2 GB which seemed to work fine. She used the laptop for about an hour and then said the memory upgrade had not fixed her wifi flaky connectivity problem. After some research, I learned there was a new driver from BroadCom to address these issues, downloaded it, installed and rebooted her laptop. Everything worked for about 10 minutes then I shut it down. Next time she rebooted it, Windows Logo came up then a blue screen with "STOP: c0000221 unknown Hard Error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll" and then automatically rebooteds. It then gets the Windows has shutdown abnormally screen and you have to select Normal Start, etc. No matter what I select, the same sequence starts over.

Thinking it might be the memory, I reinstalled the original memory but that did not fix anything. After reading the many similar messages here on Tech Support Forum, it seems it may be a bad ntdll.dll file or maybe the new driver for the WiFi card is acting up.

What is your recommendation to try and recover this system without destroying all the apps and data? We have data backups, but the application reloading and setup is a real PITA. Remember, I can't even boot this system in Safe Mode, so where do I go from here? thanks Don

I just had to full system restore my computer. When it starts up, I get a BSOD after the Windows XP splash screen which simply says:

STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

I've tried 4 system restores. Interestingly, the first and third restore failed and I got an error message saying it couldn't format my C: partition. The remaining 2 worked.

I have a copy of Windows XP on a disk and am thinking of doing a repair install. I also noticed the Hard Drive Diagnostic Utilities post and I'm now wondering if maybe these problems are symptomatic of hard drive failure. Any help would be appreciated.

Recently I bought this computer.

I tried to install XP server pack 2 but this error came up "Setup did not find any hard disk drives" during Windows XP Installation". I am currently following this guide to resolve this issue.

But I am stuck at the driver's part, I am currently on my windows 7 and don't know what driver I am suppose to upload?

Hello, I'm a first time poster and am little new at the more involved processes of upgrading my computer. I have a Dell D620 with XP pro that I bought from Ebay. I recently retired from my job (6 Months ago) and the company provided D620 had to be returned to the IT department. They allowed me to swap the hard drives from my work D620 with the one from the D620 I purchased so I could continue to be something of a consultant as needed. Everything was working fine until I decided to upgrade the hard drive with a new WD 320GB HDD. After cloning the old drive with Diskwizard everything still worked perfect until I decided to change the user set up on the new drive to just one user. Now when I try to log in at the ALT-CNTRL-DEL prompt it shows "a specified authentication package is unkown" and then Welcome to Windows: winlogon.exe-Application Error The instruction at "0x1001caf2" referenced memory at "0x00050092". The memory could not be "read". with OK or Cancel as the options. Cancel does nothing and OK starts the process all over again. I can access the BOIS and perform all the test but they all come back as passing. When I tried to put the old hard drive back in it now ask for my HDD password which I have but it won't accept it. Sorry for the long post but I've scoured the web looking for an answer with no luck so far. Please help! Thanks PS the biometrics (finger print reader) is no longer asking for a print or even activating during startup.

Hi All,

Hoping someone might have a fix for BSOD when installing XP SP2 recovery disk on a Dell Dimension 8400. The actual error is:

0X0000007B, 0XF7A40528, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000

New hard drive bought from Dell (WD 160GB) and Dell recovery Disc. The old hard drive is not recognized in an external reader. This is a SATA drive. I have played with some of the settings per other boards:

From http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/...d.php?t=156593

had the same problem with a Dell Optiplex 330. I received the
STOP 0x0000007B(0xF78DA63C,0x0000034,0X x0000000,0x0000000 error message if I booted with Windows XP. I resolved the issue by the following actions

1. On start up (Dell logo), press F2 to enter BIOS

2. Expand the "Drives" section

3. Go to "SATA Operation"

4. Change this from "RAID Auto/AHCI" to "RAID Auto/ATA"

This did not fix my issue But it did help a lot of other folks

The error happens while doing the O/S install after Region, time, user and naming the computer. Once get the bsod then get bad shutdown notice and none of the options move forward.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Hey guys.
Bought a new laptop off ebay. Its got a new 40gb hard drive it. When I turn it on, it gets to the screen that says
"Media Test Failure, check cable"
"Operating System not found"

I've triple checked the BIOS to select boot from CD before hard drive and I've tried hitting F12 and selecting the same thing, but each time, it loads to this same screen. Any ideas?

Greetings from me in St'go de Chile,

Finally my eBay ("China flavored") 2.5" / 3.5" Drive SATA to ATA IDE Converter Adapter HDD arrived!

Now my problems start:
In USB mode 263Gb free HDD space is shown, yet when I connect with the SATA to ATA IDE adapter BIOS shows 137.4 Gb.
Using "Paragon HDD Manager", I tried to copy the OS & data of another HDD to this new 300Gb HDD.
At first it all went well, yet about half an hour later I got error messages:
Disk I/O error.
When I try to format it: Drive not read error
And now Paragon HDD Manager does not even allow me to see the disks.
When I go back and plug in the USB front part of the new HDD, everything seems OK, just like before.
Maybe the new HDD need to have the pins (for Master, Slave etc.) assigned?
I just left them as they came and wouldn't know which ones to assign for "Master".

Hi, all,

This is gonna sound weird, but bear with me.

My computer (Compaq Presario Sr1303WM with Windows XP Home SP2) has bad clusters on the hard drive and now only boots in safe mode, so I want to replace it. (The hard drive, not the computer.) I bought a new hard drive, I know how to handle the hardware surgery, BUT...

My computer didn't come with an XP CD when I bought it. I bought an XP CD, but now that it's arrived, I can see that it's an SP3 CD and my CoA on my computer is, obviously, for the SP2 version my computer came with.

Before I do ANYTHING, I wanted to ask if my CoA will still work with the SP3 CD, or if I'll have to try and find an SP2 CD from eBay.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

unknown hard error systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll when installing windows

help pleasee!!!!!

I recently bought a 160 GB Seagate USB External Hard Drive on eBay. It came in the a box for a 2.5" SATA Case. However, the hard drive had already been installed in the case, as when I plug it in, the green LED lights up.

In the manual that came with it, it says that to install it on XP, you don't need to do anything, and the drivers will install themselves. However, that has not been the case.

The first time I plugged it in, a bubble popped up and said, "The USB device was not recognized." In Device Manager, it comes up as "Unknown Device".

So, I uninstall it, and then go to the Add New Hardware wizard, and it finds it, says it's installed correctly, but is still labeled as "Unknown Device". It also does not show up in My Computer or Disk Management.

Any suggestions?
